RF Catalytic Capital incubated GEAPP following its launch and provided operational and legal support throughout its initial maturation period.
To unite a diverse coalition of partners to leverage shared expertise and resources, transforming energy systems in the global South for a more equitable and sustainable future.
The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) is mobilizing philanthropic resources to build an inclusive, equitable clean energy economy in developing and emerging economies around the world.
It was formally launched at COP 26 in 2021 and set up by the Ikea Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation and the Bezos Earth Fund. RF Catalytic Capital incubated GEAPP following its launch and provided operational and legal support to help with its expected spin off. Today, GEAPP is its own 501(c) 3, headquartered in the US.
GEAPP’s approach emphasizes partnership and innovation, working with a diverse range of stakeholders to accelerate the adoption of clean energy technologies and practices. It operates as a collaborative platform designed to unlock access to green energy through four primary solutions: Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE); Just Energy Transition and Pilot Programmes.
Its geographic focus is currently in Brazil, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, South Africa, and Vietnam, where it has teams that can track progress and scale solutions and lessons learned to a broader network of more than 80 countries.
A close relationship with countries and in-country capacity development, coupled with flexible and catalytic capital, has enabled GEAPP to deploy close to US$500 m in investments, mitigate 147,00 tons of CO2 emissions, increase energy access to 1.29 million people and businesses, and support more than 600,000 jobs.
During its incubation at RFCC, GEAPP mobilized US$1 billion and targets mobilizing US$6.2 billion to unlock even greater access to green energy.
