M300 Accelerator
Accelerate energy access by deploying philanthropic capital for technical assistance in Africa.
M300 will align resources, expertise, and advocacy efforts to build and sustain momentum and ambition to transform energy access and reach approximately 300m Africans by 2030.
Mission 300 (M300) Accelerator is a unit established by RFCC to help coordinate and advance the World Bank’s and African Development Bank’s ambitious commitment to help 300 million Africans gain access to electricity by 2030.
An estimated 600 million people in Africa—roughly half of the continent’s 1.2 billion population—lack access to electricity. This shortage hinders healthcare, education, digital inclusion, and job creation. Ensuring access to electricity is critical for driving development and promoting upward mobility.
In April, the World Bank and African Development Bank made a commitment to help close this gap and to electrify 300M Africans by 2030 and launched Mission 300 (M300).
Soon thereafter, a partnership was established with The Rockefeller Foundation, the Global Alliance for People and Planet, and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) to accelerate this initiative in partnership with RFCC. The collaboration aims to deploy philanthropic capital swiftly and deliver technical assistance (TA) in support of African governments’ and the multilateral development banks’ (MDBs) efforts to accelerate the pace and efficiency of electricity access projects.
RFCC is helping the project achieve success by co-creating an implementation plan and coordinating partners to deploy funding through a nimble and agile contracting process for a TA Facility. Since beginning operations in August, the Facility received nearly three dozen requests for technical assistance and has provided provisional approval to deploy $10 million for approximately 15 projects across 11 countries.
